Local SEO for Gold Coast businesses: a practical checklist

A step by step local SEO checklist for Gold Coast businesses: Google Business Profile, location pages, reviews, citations and the website basics that matter.

If your customers are within driving distance, local SEO is where your marketing budget works hardest. When someone searches “electrician near me” or “pool builder Gold Coast”, Google shows a map with three businesses and then a list of websites. Local SEO is the work that gets you into both. Here’s the checklist we use for Gold Coast and Brisbane businesses.

1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile is the single most important local asset you have. It decides whether you appear in the map results, and Google increasingly uses it to answer questions about your business directly.

  • Choose the most specific primary category that fits, then add relevant secondary categories.
  • Fill in every field: services, service areas, hours, description, website and phone number.
  • Add real photos of your work, your team and your vehicles or premises.
  • Post updates regularly, especially when you finish a job worth showing off.

We’ve written a full guide to getting into the map pack if you want to go deeper.

2. Keep your business details identical everywhere

Your business name, address and phone number should match exactly on your website, your Google profile, Facebook, Instagram, industry directories and anywhere else you’re listed. Inconsistent details make it harder for Google to trust which information is correct.

3. Build a page for each service you want to rank for

One “Services” page listing everything you do won’t rank for each of those services. Each important service deserves its own page that explains what it is, who it’s for, what it costs or how pricing works, and answers the questions customers actually ask.

4. Create genuinely useful location pages

If you work across the Gold Coast, pages for the suburbs you serve can help you show up for searches like “security doors Hope Island” or “electrician Burleigh Heads”. The catch is that they need to be useful. Swapping the suburb name on the same paragraph twenty times is the fastest way to waste your time.

Good location pages talk about the jobs you do in that area, the types of homes or businesses there, how quickly you can get there and real projects nearby. Our Volt One Electrical concept site has 32 suburb pages built this way, and the Secure Blinds & Screens concept has twelve, each with its own local copy.

5. Ask every happy customer for a review

Reviews influence both your ranking and whether people choose you once they see you. Make it easy: send a direct link to your review form after every finished job, and reply to every review, good or bad. A thoughtful reply to a negative review often wins more trust than the review loses.

6. Get the website basics right

  • Unique page titles and meta descriptions that mention the service and location naturally.
  • Fast loading on mobile. Most local searches happen on phones. Our guide to Core Web Vitals explains what Google measures.
  • LocalBusiness schema so search engines understand who you are, where you work and how to contact you.
  • Click-to-call phone numbers and a short enquiry form on every page.

7. Earn local links and mentions

Links from other local websites tell Google you’re a real part of the community. Think suppliers you work with, local business groups, sponsorships, industry associations and genuine features in local media. A handful of relevant local links beats hundreds of random ones.

8. Track what’s working

Set up Google Search Console and analytics so you can see which searches you appear for, which pages bring in visitors and how many of those visitors call or enquire. Without tracking, you’re guessing.

Where to start

If you only do three things this month, complete your Google Business Profile, ask your last ten customers for a review and make sure your main service pages exist and load fast on a phone. If you’d like help with the rest, our SEO and digital marketing service covers audits, local SEO, Google Ads and tracking, or you can book a free intro call.
